The LMP calls on the government to take decisive action in Brussels to give the European Union a preference for climate-friendly agricultural forms with its support, the party's co-chairman said at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.

The opposition politician explained that radical changes to community agricultural policy are needed to bring climate-adapted techniques to the forefront rather than financing large plants. However, according to the LMP, not only EU resources but also Hungarian resources should be restructured in a climate-friendly direction, because the climate crisis is the biggest hit by the agrithium, which could raise national security issues, he explained. Erzsébet Schmuck said extreme weather, frequent and prolonged droughts, huge storms and sudden rainfall, as well as the emergence of new pests make agricultural production unpredictable. He stressed that as a result, food prices were already rising significantly by 12% and could continue this trend in the future. As an example, he mentioned that the price of onions doubled in two years, tomatoes by 90 percent, and cabbage increased by 40 percent, while pork increased by 20 percent.
