The President of the European Free Alliance Group in the European Parliament, Oriol Junqueras, has written an opinion article aimed at all European democrats, encouraging them to foster the dialogue process between Catalonia and Spain and to end the repression, which would bring Europe back to the darkest moments of its democracy.

Junqueras also urges to stop the Spanish Supreme Court’s appeal against MEPs Carles Puigdemont and Antoni Comín, as “it seeks no justice, but revenge.” In his article, which has been published by fifteen international media outlets, Junqueras recalls that the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union made it clear that he is a Member of the European Parliament and, therefore, he has immunity since he was democratically elected by the citizens. He also denounces the violation of his political rights as he has not been able to hold office. Junqueras argues that Europe cannot look away when one of its member states decides to fail to comply with a European judicial ruling and to confront the sovereignty of the European Union. EFA Group President also proposes an amnesty for the whole cause against independence, a negotiation table between Catalonia and Spain and a referendum on independence.
