The Government will move forward in early July implementation of the social tariff for broadband Internet access, measure that is expected to benefit around 700,000 households, a number similar to the which are already covered by the social tariff on electricity and water.

At the Council press conference Ministers on Thursday, the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, explained that the citizens covered will have guaranteed access to nine basic services, and the amount to be paid will be "compatible" with the level of household incomes. For the Government, "it is a question of ensuring that all Portuguese citizens, regardless of their economic condition, have access to a set of basic internet services that today have a relevance in our life and citizenship similar to any other services public," said the minister. From the package of nine basic services that access to e-mail, search engines, search engines, educational programs, news reading, online shopping, access to offers employment services, banking services, public services, social and messaging or calls and video calls. This basic package, said the minister, will have a limit of 10 gigabytes per month and a download speed of 30 megabytes per second. Accelerating the digital transitionStill in the context of promoting access to new technologies, the Government also approved the thursday the reformulation of the INCoDe.2030 programme and the simplification of use of the Citizen Card.About the reformulation of the program INCoDe.2030, aimed at qualifying the digital skills of Siza Vieira explained that "a closer alignment will be made between the structures and measures of the programme and the training arm of people in the action plan for the digital transition." With regard to the Citizen Card (CC), the Minister said that the diploma now approved provides for the most document "in a number of important services". Pedro Siza Vieira stated that these measures meet the objectives of "accelerating the transformation of Portugal in a more competitive and open economy", to "increase efficiency and transparency of public administration", to "increase the quality of relationship between public services, citizens and businesses" and, above all, "don't leave anyone behind."
