Today, not only NGOs, but also a number of municipal governments are opposed to the cancellation of the tracks.

The issue of interference and deteriorating state of regional lines was the subject of today's round table in the Senate under the title: "Regional railways in the Czech Republic: the current state and future". Experts agreed at the meeting that there was not sufficiently interconnected communication and coordination of rail transport activities between carriers, railway owners and, in particular, railway users, municipalities and entrepreneurs who use the railway for the transport of their goods. The round table presented for the first time the intention of establishing the International Institute for Transport Affairs, which already brings together experts from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia (cooperation with Austria and Germany is discussed). Regional lines can facilitate congested road transport, especially by larger agglomerations within suburban transport. Regional lines help to develop tourism and increase the attractiveness of a number of exceptional locations. Railway freight carriers are also interested in some of them." Cancelling regional lines according to indicators of immediate use could be a major mistake in the future. Although municipalities are asking them to build new stops and freight rail carriers want to use them, the plan for future security and connection to the main lines does not yet envisage them. The potential for greater support and evaluation of the importance of regional lines is, in my opinion, at the level of the regions. In cooperation with municipalities, we can prevent future losses of a greener mode of transport, which can also be an important part of integrated transport systems." says the organizer of the round table, Senator Jitka Seitlová.
