THE US BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA IS CRIMINAL! IT MUST BE STOPPED NOW! During its visit to Cuba, the EL reaffirms its total opposition to the criminal and inhuman blockade imposed on Cuba and its people for 60 years by the United States.

It calls for pressure on the latter to stop applying it and to establish relations based on mutual respect and non-interference with Cuba. Every year, the United Nations passes a resolution, supported by an overwhelming majority of countries, calling for an end to this embargo, which violates human rights. The 243 measures to tighten the blockade imposed by the Trump administration, far from being rejected by Joe Biden, have been maintained and the policy pursued by the Democratic administration has persevered in the path of destabilisation, aggression, and violation of international law and the dignity of peoples. Cuba and its people have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has had a disastrous impact on the country's economy. Nevertheless, the country has been able to develop vaccines in record time, to protect its population, including children, while sending (faithful to a long tradition of internationalism) its support to many countries – namely through brigades of doctors. Cuban advances could help more people, save even more lives if the blockade were lifted. In Europe, unfortunately, too many governments and media are aligned with US positions and spread disinformation and a truncated view of the Cuban reality, giving up on an independent policy that would benefit both Cubans and Europeans. In this spirit, the EL calls on the European Union to strengthen the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement with Cuba.It is crucial that progressive forces in Europe, be they political, trade union, civil society, etc., come together and organize themselves concretely to say their rejection of the blockade, to fight against disinformation about Cuba, and to mobilise the peoples of Europe in solidarity with the Cuban people. The EL has been working in these directions for many years now and will continue its activities in support of the Cuban people. FRTHE US BLOCKADE AGAINST CUBA IS CRIMINAL!
