On Tuesday, January 27, in Strasbourg «reconciliation» Boris Cilević, member of the Social Democratic Party, was elected Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee.

This is one of the most responsible posts of a PASSPORT ever held by a Latvian representative. " The Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights is seen as the second national PASSPORT for major committees. The Committee shall produce reports, resolutions and draft recommendations, on a much larger scale than any other committee of the Assembly. The Committee's remit covers all issues relating to the ECHR, the various European treaties and the work of the Strasbourg court and its decisions, in general all of which are the Council of Europe's most important issues. All the above mentioned issues are very topical for Latvia, "explained Boris Cilevičs.
