The protection of drinking water will be a key requirement for the Socialist People's Social Security (SF) in the budget negotiations.– Our drinking water is under threat and I am seriously afraid we will end up buying drinking water in plastic bottles if we do not do something drastic now. Therefore, we must form a ring about our drinking water and protect it from all kinds of pollution, says Pia Olsen Dyhr, Chairman of the Socialist People's Party. The Socialist People's Bank has already announced that money will be found to create groundwater parks throughout the country. It will make a huge difference to prevent pesticides from agriculture from penetrating groundwater. But it's not enough. We must guard against all sources of pollution of drinking water, not only from agriculture, but also from businesses, landowners, public institutions and from contaminated sites. Everything needs to be reviewed with a tight comb so that the sources of pollution can be stopped or cleaned up.– We've been battling pollution of drinking water for years, but just not enough has been done. We need to change that now. The Finance Act must be a historic turning point for the protection of water. Now is the time to ensure total defence against pollution, wherever it comes from. Our children and grandchildren must also be able to drink clean tap water, says Pia Olsen Dyhr.The money to be found in the Finance Act SF will allocate an additional DKK 100 million annually in the Finance Act to a strengthened effort against other sources of pollution and for cleaning up contaminated sites in the water abstraction areas. That money comes on top of our proposal on groundwater parks. Groundwater parks must be both agreed and financed in the Finance Act. The other proposals take the Socialist People's Group to negotiate a new pesticide agreement, but the economy must already be secured in the budget.
