In order to thank the participants of the 1991 barricades for their contribution to strengthening the independence of Latvia, the Ventspils Municipality Council supported the proposal of the National Association to grant real estate tax relief in the amount of 50 percent to the participants of the barricades for housing and the land under its jurisdiction in Ventspils municipality.

"We appreciate the contribution of the participants of the 1991 barricades to the restoration of the independence of the State of Latvia and have decided that those who live and declare in Ventspils region have the opportunity to receive real estate tax relief. This is how we can thank you for your selfless and national actions. We hope that other municipalities will follow suit," says Andis Zariņš, Deputy Chairman of Ventspils Municipality (National Association).   The relief can be obtained by filling out the form, and it is granted if the declared place of residence of the person on January 1 of the tax year is in the object of real estate for which the relief is granted, and this real estate is not used in economic activity, is not rented or leased. The application form is available on the website of the local government, as well as it is possible to write an application in free form in parish administrations. After that, you will also need to present a certificate of participation in the 1991 barricades, issued by the 1991 Barricades Museum.
