Prague, 12 May 2008 February 2020 – At 3:00 a.m., MPs today approved the Pirates' proposed amendment to the Constitution, which will extend the powers of the Supreme Audit Office to control state institutions, towns and regions.

The author of the proposal is Mr Lukáš Černohorský, Vice-Chairman of the Control Committee. The supervision of the SAO over the management of regions, towns and public media is intended to contribute to the recovery of public finances. In practice, the law will allow the timely detection of subsidy fraud, irresponsible waste, or accounting errors." At least 120 Members were needed to amend the Constitutional Act. We are glad that we have managed to get the necessary support. The amendment is now going to the Senate, where we expect further debate, but I expect senators to approve the change," commented Lukáš Černohorský. In addition to pirate members, Members from the CLUBS ANO, KSČM, SPD and ČSSD and one member from the Clubs KDU-ČSL and STAN also voted in favour of the amendment of the Constitution. If the proposal to extend the SAO's powers passes, it will apply fully to certain self-governing units, such as the regions or the Capital City of Prague, but also to public media such as Ct or ČRo." If the State transfers new obligations to self-government, it is in our interest to check whether they are able to cover these activities with their costs and possibly adequately compensate them for these costs," adds Lukáš Černohorský.
