Press release of the parliamentary group of La France insoumise Since Friday, August 27, the exfiltrations of civilians organized by France have ceased without Emmanuel Macron having clearly expressed the reception policy put in place by the French government to ensure the protection of Afghan civilians seeking to flee the regime.

Every minute counts, however, as several abuses have been committed, from the first days of the installation of the new regime, targeting artists, journalists and minorities. Emmanuel Macron did not express France's determination to weigh in for the respect of women's rights in Afghanistan. Yet their plight is of particular concern when one recalls the repressive and discriminatory measures imposed on them under the previous Taliban regime from 1996 to 2001. Currently, on the ground, their situation remains precarious, despite the announcements of the new regime which tries to make believe the opposite. However, apart from urging the Taliban to respect the dignity of women, Emmanuel Macron has still not expressly expressed france's reception of Afghan women whose rights would no longer be guaranteed. However, their reception and protection are explicitly recognized by Article L. 711-2 of the Code of Entry and Residence of Foreigners and the Right of Asylum, which provides that "with regard to the grounds for persecution, aspects related to gender and sexual orientation are duly taken into account". Moreover, for many Afghan women, the situation resulting from the taliban seizure of power is very clearly constitutive of "fears of persecution or of the real risk of suffering serious harm" provided for in Article L. 723-4 of the same code. France must also make itself heard and, through the European Union, the main donor with the United States in Afghanistan, must absolutely condition the lifting of sanctions against the Taliban on their commitment to respect human rights, especially those of women. The parliamentary group of La France insoumise will actively participate in all mobilizations in this direction. As such, we welcome the initiative of our colleague Marie-George Buffet to re-activate the "Support Committee for the Emancipation of Afghan Women" which we join, and we call on the greatest number of parliamentarians to do the same.
