At the Provisional National Coordination of the Territorial Promoters committees of Free and EqualFirst I want to thank you! Your initiative confirms to me, once again, that there is a left in search of a political subject that will allow it to return to its views.

This appointment of yours takes place at a turning point for Free and Equals. After the "my" Manifesto, which aimed to conclude that first phase never started, there were some new developments: on the one hand the document and then the note circulated by the coordinator of Mdp, on the other the one voted by a majority by the National Assembly of SI. No one formally denies the choice made a year ago with the list of Free and Equals, but it is clear that each has its own political perspective for the birth of the party. Precisely because I care about the continuation of the path – I think I have never given up any doubts about it – I take advantage of this opportunity for some further reflection. The two-step constituent path (with the first one characterized by membership, CPN and voting) served to establish a framework of ideas and values that, once discussed, amended and shared, would give each participant the opportunity to express their consent or to abandon the path. And I think not taking full advantage of the opportunity in the first phase was a fatal mistake. One of the issues is the European position and the consequent choice for the next elections. In this regard, I note that the positions on the pitch are varied and conflicting, especially on two choices: adherence to the Pse or Gue; single list or pin of the construction of a composite left list. If, in the absence of the first phase, such options, clearly alternative and irreconcilable, were to be confronted in a congress, we would record, one minute after the final outcome, yet another split. I fear that it is useless and instrumental to assume a count that, under the given conditions, would not be a congress, but a kind of auction for the symbol. It would be, honestly, an undignified and even less useful ending. When will we get to the details of the issues affecting workers, young people and citizens? I want to say this in the words of the youngest senator, Laforgia: "This country is orphaned by a left worthy of the name. We must be alternative not to other parties but to our past, to our mistakes, to the world as it is." It seems to me that the political landscape of the European and world left is in complete disrestation, there are networks that are born and reflections that affect historical parties and families. The political proposals that will be debated at the next European elections cannot ignore all this. Why should we already decide to go alone or forge alliances before we even exist? The key point is to arrive at that moment strong of an identity, a leadership group, an organization. In one word: a party. I am interested in finally giving representation to that world that exists and that marches for peace, for acceptance, for integration, for solidarity; to that world that manifests for the universal right to study; to that absolutely plural world that supports Mediterranean; to that world that is committed to the unions for the rights of workers that are there and for those who will be there; to that world that lives the environmental issue as a necessity and an opportunity for growth and development. I am very interested in knowing, and very much, the will of the LeU territorial committees, born spontaneously despite the many inadequacies of national leaders, starting with mine. We can quickly relaunch the constituent path starting from the Manifesto "A party. Left" (summary of the contributions of the CPN), from online memberships implementing the website liberieuguali.it, and from a national meeting with the Territorial Committees from which to get out with the legitimacy of a constituent body. And to this national body, each of us national leaders finally give, by public act, sovereignty over name and symbol, while at the same time committing to foresee the dissolution of the parties of origin. After all, you are Free and Equal! Good job to all and everyone, soon! Piero Grasso
