After the elections of 4 March, many of us renewed the promise in our electoral programme: "Free and Equal participates in the general elections with an autonomous proposal and alternative to the existing parties, with a list that is the first step towards the building a new common political subject of progressive, civic and left-wing forces in our country"I have not changed my mind.

My dream has not changed: I want, together with all of you, to help found a left-wing party, autonomous and alternative to existing parties. To achieve this common goal, I had to force my hand in some steps and take steps that could facilitate the process. The two most significant were the agenda of the assembly on 26 May – which indicated ways and times for the comparison between the different souls that make up LeU – and the launch of the National Promoter Committee, which we entrusted with the task of drawing up the thesis of the Manifesto.Il Committee's work has been outstanding in passion, commitment, dedication, ideas and contributions. In three months people different in age, experience and skills have worked around the problem nuclei of the present and the future, to build together the identity of a left-wing party fully aware of the difficult time we are living and able to challenges that will come. A document, a manifesto, designed to define the political culture behind the LeU project, to be entrusted to the discussion and voting in that fictional "first phase" that was supposed to close by 30 September. It is mid-October and, for instrumental reasons, the "first phase" has not even begun. I'm used to keeping up with the word given. For this reason I decided to make myself a summary of the contributions that have arrived and draw up the Manifesto of Free and Equals, drawing, starting from the reflections of the Committee, the ideal perimeter within which our proposal will have to move. Others, I hope, will turn this Manifesto into a political programme. I do not deny that the different and repeated public stances of openness to more or less "popular" rassemblements, legitimate but without coordination with the political coordination of LeU, convinced me to do this – I assure you last – forcing to protect the original project, in the hope that it will serve to create a shared proposal to move forward, together, and to build Free and Equal. Those who wish to return to their old political home do so as soon as possible, and let us continue. Because we're going to move on. This is what the Territorial Committees of LeU, born in many cities of Italy, are asking for: this is what voters, militants and leaders are asking for in the territories, the same ones who have devoted time and resources to the election campaign that brought 14 MEPs and 4 senators, and who deserve more respect than they have reserved so far. They deserve the clarity of an autonomous and alternative proposal, not the confused hope of waiting for a rethink of others who are not perceptible at the moment. Ideas are important, but it is actions that make them concrete. At this time the battle against the NGOs started by Minister Minniti was brought to fruition by the Minister Salvini.Il Mediterranean would be without witnesses if there were no Mediterranean, the ship that departed a few days ago thanks to the commitment of many Associations and some leU exponents. Let's help him out. At this link you can help to give Mediterranea the opportunity to continue his journey. Good wind,Peter Grasso.
