The Party of the European Left (EL) is in Chile with a delegation at a historic moment for the country.
On September 4th the citizens will be called to vote in a referendum on the new constitution that could replace the old Pinochetista one still in force since 1980.After the social outburst that started in 2019, political and social forces, trade unions, as well as the whole people pushed to start this process of a new constitution.The changes aim to guarantee fundamental rights such as decent work, education, health, housing, parity, un major vivir and a radical change in the quality of people’s lives.Maite Mola, first vice-president and in charge of international relations of the EL, Marco Consolo, coordinator of the working group on Latin America and the Caribbean and member of the EL executive board, and Piera Muccigrosso, political advisor and in charge of projects, are part of the delegation that is deployed in Santiago these days to support the approval of the new constitution.We are developing meetings with the Comando del Apruebo, formed by a hundred forces and parties and representatives of civil society; the CUT trade union, the Communist Party of Chile, the Frente Amplio as well as Constituents who explain to us the dynamics of the elaboration of the constitutional text, through a democratic and representative process, and the campaign of the Apruebo.The EL denounces, together with these forces, the alteration of the news and the aggression of the right-wing and sectors of the rejection of the constitution, and calls on all the Chilean people, also in Europe, to vote in favour of this new constitution, which will be the basis for the transformation of Chilean society as a whole towards equality.*** ES***El Partido de la Izquierda Europea por el Apruebo de la nueva Constitución chilenaEl Partido de la Izquierda Europea está en Chile con una delegación en un momento histórico para el país. El 4 septiembre la ciudadanía será llamada a votar en un referéndum la nueva constitución que podría substituir la vieja Pinochetista todavía en vigencia desde el 1980.Después del estallido social que empezó en 2019, fuerzas políticas, sindicales y sociales, así como el pueblo entero empujaron para empezar este proceso de nueva constitución.Los cambios quieren garantizar derechos fundamentales como trabajo decente, educación, salud, vivienda, paridad, un mejor vivir y un cambio radical de la calidad de la vida de las personas.Maite Mola, vicepresidenta primera y encargada de relaciones internacionales, Marco Consolo, coordinador del grupo de trabajo sobre América Latina y Caribe y miembro- del ejecutivo del (PIE) y Piera Muccigrosso, asesora política y encargada de proyectos, forman parte de la delegación que se despliega en Santiago en estos días para apoyar el Apruebo de la nueva constitución.Estamos desarrollando encuentros con el Comando del Apruebo, formado por una centena de fuerzas y partidos y representantes de la sociedad civil; el sindicato CUT, el Partido Comunista de Chile, el Frente Amplio así como Constituyentes que nos explican las dinámicas de elaboración del texto constitucional, a través un Proceso democrático y representativo, y la campaña del Apruebo.El PIE denuncia, junto con estas fuerzas, la alteración de las noticias y la agresión de la derecha y sectores del rechazo de la constitución, y llamamos a todo el pueblo chileno, también en Europa, a votar a favor de esta nueva constitución, que será la base de transformación de la sociedad chilena en su conjunto hacia la igualdad.
